BLM Continues Wildfire Mitigation Efforts at Site Adjacent to East Carbon

By Sun Advocate

On Sept. 1, the United States Bureau of Land Management announced the federal agency’s plans to continue wildfire mitigation efforts on public parcels adjacent to East Carbon City.
As recently as the 1990s, a large wildfire burned within close proximity to East Carbon, pointed out the BLM’s announcement.
The goal of the East Carbon project is to reduce the impact of wildland fire on the community by thinning and opening up the pinyon-juniper woodlands on the surrounding public lands, explained the federal agency.
Additionally, the BLM’s wildfire mitigation efforts will focus on improving winter forage for wildlife.
Phase two of the wildfire mitigation project will consist of contract hand crews cutting and thinning the trees and brush with chain saws, continued the federal agency.
The location of the 285-acre project unit is north of the East Carbon community.
The Oregon based contract crew will be working in the designated area until the project is completed, indicated the BLM.
