Carbon High School’s football team has been unable to get a win in four games this season. The team lost its homecoming game, 14-52, Friday against Canyon View.
The win slowly faded away from the Dinos, who were unable to score until the fourth quarter. The Falcons controlled the game almost from the kick-off, scoring 14 points in the first quarter with runs by Canyon View’s Savage and Minefee.
In the second quarter, the Dinos were still unable to gain yardage and lost a second touchdown to a run by Canyon View’s Julian, bringing the score to 0-21 at the half.
The third quarter dealt a severe blow to the spirits of Carbon fans who watched as the Falcons chalked up an additional 25 points. The Falcon’s Minefee ran in two more runs, one for 28 yards, the other for 67. Carbon blocked one kick on the point after, and the Falcon’s were unable to make the other.
Canyon View’s Walker ran 48 yards for yet another touchdown, followed by a 25-yard run by Laird. With the point after only good on one of the two attempts, the Dinos ended the third quarter down 0-46.
Six minutes into the fourth quarter, the Dinos finally made a touchdown by completing a 43-yard pass. With the point after good, the Dinos had points on the board, but that was not enough to stop the Falcons.
With three minutes left in the game, Canyon View’s Robinson ran in his team’s final touchdown, a 52-yard run. The Falcons failed to get the point after, but held a 52-7 lead over the Dinos.

However, with just seconds left on the clock, the Dinos completed a 14-yard pass. The Dinos made the point after and finished the game down 38 points.
Canyon View’s powerhouse for the game, Minefee, ran 172 yards on 12 carries and Remmington ran more than 100 yards on 10 carries. In a large part, the Falcon’s win could be attributed to 501 yards in rushing, which the Dinos seemed unable to respond.
That loss is not the worst the Dinos have seen this season. On Aug. 19 at San Juan, Carbon lost 6-51, a 45-point difference. A week later, the Dinos lost at Uintah by a 39 point margin, 6-45.
Last week, the Dinos fared slightly better, losing by just 16 points at home to Union, with a final score of 14-30. That game against Union seemed to repeat itself last weekend. Union had scored all 30 points before the end of the third quarter.
The Dinos followed that up with a good fourth quarter, chalking up two touchdowns, both by junior Brandon Wilson. One was a 2-yard run; the other, a 85-yard fumble recovery.
The Dinos face Hurricane this weekend at Hurricane. That will finish the Dinos non-region play. The first region game will be Sept. 23 at home against Delta.
Carbon trails the region along with Emery. Both teams are winless this year, and will not face each other until the end of the season in October.
