Darrel Price
CLAWSON – Darrel Fame Price passed away peacefully in his home on April 9, 2005, surrounded by his loving family.
Darrel was born June 20, 1933, in Provo, to Fame and Tressie Price. He married his childhood sweetheart, Helen Louise Blackburn July 12, 1951 (later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple). They were married 53 years.
He served in the Korean War from 1951-54. After returning home he worked as a coal miner for 40 years. He served in many positions in the LDS church including bishop, high councilman and also fulfilled a church service mission with his wife at the bishop’s store house. Darrel loved camping, gardening and playing his guitar and mandolin with friends and his sons. He loved visiting with people and was an accomplished storyteller blessed with the gift of gab. He loved his family and being around them. He considered them one of his greatest accomplishments and will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
Darrel is survived by wife, Helen Louise Blackburn, Price; five children, Bob (Doris) Price of Ferron; Jean (Randy) Smith of Nephi; Kim (Wade) Riley of Clawson; Gary (Shaunnie) Price of Clawson; Stephen (Chantel) Price of Ferron; brothers, Bud (Maria) Price of St. George; Johhny Binder of Washington; sisters, LaRue Remington of West Valley City; and Betty (Keith) Eatough of Arizona. He also leaves behind 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren who will forever remember his laughter, love and stories. He was preceded in death by parents, Fame and Tressie Price.
Viewing was Tuesday, April 12, at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale. Funeral services were Wednesday, April 13 at the Blue Hill Ward LDS Church House in Ferron. Grampa always said, “Love ya, be sure and come back ya hear” and we will.
Harold Slaughter
PRICE – Harold Wayne Slaughter, age 80, passed away April 11, 2005, at Castleview Hospital after a long illness.
He was born July 16, 1924, in Marceline, Mo., to James Lark and Hazel Stevensen Slaughter. On Jan. 29, 1949, he married Iona Mae Heath in Elko, Nev.
As a young man Harold excelled academically and graduated from high school at the age of 16. He served his country in World War II as a gunners mate for the U.S. Navy.
Harold was a longtime resident of Carbon County where he retired from Utah Power & Light as a lineman in 1983. Throughout his life he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survived by loving wife, Iona Slaughter, Price; three children, Patricia S. (Guy) Davis, Randy Wayne Slaughter, Justin K. “Sam” (Michelle) Slaughter, all of Price; four grandchildren, Akemi (Chad) Reynolds; Tiana (Jason) Secor; Haley Davis; and Devin Davis; and one more grandchild on the way; two great-grandchildren, MaKenna and Tysen Reynolds; and special dog Schnitzel, that he cared for and would always sit in his chair with him. Preceded in death by parents; brothers, Glen and James; and sister, Myrl.
Funeral service, Friday, April 15, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. and Friday one hour prior to service. Interment, Cliffview Cemetery.
Ces Kokal
HELPER – Celestine “Ces” Raible Kokal, age 88, passed away April 13, 2005 in Price.
Born Jan. 31, 1917, in Altus, Ark., to George and Katie Post Raible. Married John Kokal May 6, 1940, in Altus, Ark., he died Feb. 3, 1986.
Member of the Catholic Church where she was a member and past president for the DCCW. She was a member of St. Anthony Altar Society, Woman of the Year and and actively involved with many other committees and programs. Ces was a volunteer for the Western Mining and Railroad Museum in Helper for 10 years and was nominated as volunteer of the year. She was a people person who loved to talk and work in her garden.
Survived by three sons and one daughter, Jeannette (Robert) Stephen, Huntington Beach, Calif.; Thomas E. (Shanna) Kokal, Casper, Wyo.; Charles A. (Toni) Kokal, Littleton, Colo.; Edward “Pat” (Gaylene) Kokal, Helper; three sisters and one brother, Bertha Klacko, Chicago, Ill.; Loretta Milligan, Montero, Ill.; Rose Marie Evans, Chicago, Ill.; Vince Raible, Lake Oswego, Ore.; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband; son, John Kokal; brothers, Bill, Leo and Roman Raible; and sister, Techla Burt.
Funeral Mass Saturday, April 16, 10 a.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church. Vigil service Friday evening, 7 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Friday and Saturday one hour prior to service. Interment, Mountain View Cemetery, Helper.
