Michael Glasson watches as he gets ready to dive during a meet last season. He is one of the most experienced divers on Carbon’s team this year. |
Last year when Carbon’s boys diving team won the 3A state championship, many people were surprised, even some of the divers.
But this year they are up for it as they enter into the season to defend that title.
On Nov. 12 the Carbon team traveled to South Summit High School in Kamas for an invitational qualifying diving meet.
For most of the divers participating, it was the first meet they had ever been to. Over 50 divers showed up to compete.
In the boys 11 dive category, Carbon’s Michael Glasson placed third overall. He seemed a bit nervous about the first meet, despite having the experience of diving for over three years.
Other placers for Carbon were Travis Hobbs who took 10th place, Jacob Perez to took 11th, Kent Olsen who placed 12th and Christian Axelgard who finished the meet in 15th place.
In the six dive category for boys Jared Maryboy placed sixth.
None of the boys on the team, including the first year divers, failed any dives.
“That, in itself is a great accomplishment,” said diving coach Stewart Foster.
In the girls division Carbon’s Katie Hobbs placed 11th.
In the girls six dive category Chelsey Cloward placed first.
The next dual meet will be at the Price poll on Nov. 22 at 3:30 p.m.
