Martin Swenson
PRICE – Martin Swenson, age 85, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, at Castleview Hospital.
He was born Nov. 10, 1919 to Alfred Albert and Kate Taylor Swenson in Ferron. Married Una Marx Aug. 1, 1939 in Sterling, later solemnized in the Jordan River LDS Temple.
Martin was a longtime resident of Carbon County.
He worked in the coal mines for 41 years before retiring. For several years, he did carpentry work when not at the mines.
He was proud of his home of 35 years in Carbonville that he built himself.
Martin enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting during his younger years.
He and Una spent several years living in Bullhead, Ariz., during the winter months. Summer months, he took great pride in working in his garden and doing projects around the house.
Martin was challenged with black lung for many years, but he never let that stop him from achieving his goals.
Martin never put his wishbone where his backbone ought to be. He was a man of great integrity. He was always honest and a hard worker.
He appreciated his dear neighbors. He loved watching oldtime western movies and bull riding.
Martin was especially proud of his children and grandchildren, whom he loved very much.
He was a very special husband, father and grandfatherand his family will treasure those memories.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Una Marx Swenson; children, Martin Ray (Jeannie) Swenson, Westpoint; Diane (George) Richards, West Jordan; Faye (Scott) Roberts, South Jordan; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by brother, Jack D. (Cora) Swenson, Spanish Fork; and several nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by parents, five brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 12, at 11 a.m. at the Spring Glen LDS Chapel. A viewing will be Friday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary and one hour prior to services at the church. Burial, Price City Cemetery.
The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation for all the love and concerns shown to them during this difficult time.
Jim Alger
BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Jim J. Alger, age 60 of Brunswick, Ga., died Feb. 6, 2005.
Jim made his home in Brunswick for the last 20 years. He was a registered land surveyor and was the owner of Coastal Surveying in Jacksonville, Fla.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Jo Alger, Brunswick, Ga.; son, Michael Hovat, Jacksonville, Fla.; four daughters, Cindy Lee Barksdale, Nahunta, Ga.; Melissa Nyers and Christy Boatright, both of Brunswick, Ga.; Cassandra Alldredge, Monroe, Wash.; three brothers, Pete Alger, Huntington; John Alger, Price; Thomas Alger, Mo.; sister, Jennie McGuirk, Bainbridge, Ga. and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be Thursday, 11 a.m., at the LDS Chapel in Brunswick, Ga., under the direction of Edo Miller and Son Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Tsunami Relief in care of the American Red Cross.
