The men’s relay team of sophomores Leo Yu and Chris Eikenbary and seniors Jacob Mantz and Chase Norton broke two school relay records at the 3A State Swim Meet Friday and Saturday Feb. 4 and 5.
The men’s 200 Medley Relay record of 1:51.56 set in 1985 finally fell when the Carbon relay team swam a 1:50.94 on Friday at the state meet. Each swimmer on the team swam their best split contributing to the new record.
The men’s 200 Free Relay record set in 1994 of 1:38.80 was broken by a full second at the Region 8 Championships in Richfield on January 22, 2005. They broke the record by two more seconds again on Saturday of the State Meet swimming a 1:35.96, taking off two more seconds.
Carbon men overall swam great, all swims were best times except two,
Chase Norton, a senior, swam a best time and placed 11th in the 50 Free. He also placed 17th in the 100 Free.

Jacob Mantz, another senior, swam his best time but missed the school record in the 100 Fly by one second, placing 19th. He missed the record again in the 100 Breaststroke by seven tenths of a second placing 14th.
Leo Yu, a sophomore, who took half a second off his 50 Free at Region two weeks before, took off a full second at State moving from 24th place to 16th. In the 100 Breaststroke he also swam a best time placing 23rd.
Chris Eikenbary. another sophomore, took five seconds off his 200 IM placing 14th in the state. His best time in the 100 Breaststroke gave him a 15th place.
Men swimming the 400 Free Relay did a fantastic job with seniors Dan Gibson reaching a long awaited individual goal, and Cliff Sorensen swimming a best time as well.
Two freshmen, DJ Wiley, achieving a personal best, and Thomas Peterson also completed this relay.
