Barracudas turn heads at Delta meet

By Sun Advocate

The Barracudas, an area swim team, recently competed in Delta against the Richfield Dolphins and the Delta Torpedoes.
Three athletes were competing in their first swim meet and all three exceeded their own expectations.
After 11-year-old Kate Johnson asserted that she wasn’t “fast at swimming”, she finished in first place in the girls 50m free and second place in the girls 50m breaststroke.
Barracuda coach Heidi Miller said she didn’t think the young swimmer would complain about not being fast anymore.
Tiffany Henrie and Alex Johnson also had strong finishes in their respective events.
Damian Miller was the only swimmer to compete in the optional three events and took home a first place ribbon in all three.
According to coach Miller, Damian beat his competition in the 100m breaststroke by two one-hundreths of a second.
“I don’t think there were any hard feelings because I found him playing foosball with the same kid after the meet,” coach Miller commented.
Randy Slane took 10 seconds off his best 100m free time and 10 seconds off his 50m butterfly.
Ryan Slane improved his 100m free by 15 seconds and his 100m back by 11 seconds.
The team’s next meet with be July 30 and 31 for the season championship.
