•Cleveland Reservoir – The Cleveland-Huntington Irrigation Company is releasing water from Cleveland Reservoir. This has created dangerously unstable ice conditions.
The Division of Wildlife Resources strongly advises all winter recreationalists to stay off this reservoir until the spring thaw.
•Electric Lake – Todd Munford of Big Pine Sports in Fairview said that fishing has slowed down, but anglers are still catching some nice cutthroat trout on the east shoreline north of the dam.
Access is tough. Best fishing occurs in 20-30 feet of water. Munford recommends using Kastmasters or white Gitzits, tipped with a night crawler.
•Huntington Creek – Fishing has been best below the forks with a chamois caddis tipped with a wax worm.
Another option is a red/orange San Juan worm. Brown trout are in the eight to 14 inch size class.
•Huntington North Reservoir – Ice fishing has been slow much of the winter, even though the reservoir was stocked with 600 rainbow trout brood fish on September 16 and with another 700 half-pound brown trout in November and December.
•Huntington Reservoir – (above Cleveland Reservoir) Munford suggests using Swedish pimples or white Gitzits tipped with mealworms. Fishing is best in 10-12 feet of water from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Tiger trout have weighed as much as 3 lbs and have been as long as 20 inches. Be prepared to auger through layers of snow, slush and ice.
•Joes Valley Reservoir – Water is being drawn from the reservoir, making ice conditions dangerous. Anglers are urged to stay off this reservoir until the spring thaw.
•Millers Flat – Munford reports great fishing for those willing to take sleds in from the Millers/Joes Valley trailhead.
He suggests fishing off point on the southwest end of the reservoir with 1/32 oz. white Gitzits, tipped with a mealworm or night crawler. Try fishing in 10-14 feet of water. Don’t put a sled on the reservoir due to layers of snow, water and ice.
Rainbow trout have been in the 10-15 inch size range.
•Scofield Reservoir – Fishing has been very sporadic. Best fishing has occurred in the early morning. Try white and chartreuse tube jigs or paddle bugs, tipped with mealworms and coated with crawfish Smelly Jelly.
The best fishing has been southwest of the island. Cutthroat trout range between 12-16 inches. Rainbow trout have been around 12 inches with an exceptional fish up to 18 inches.
