CEU’s Lauren Jones (21) waits for a possible rebound as a teammate takes a shot during the game on Saturday night.

The Carbon Lady Dinos were off to a strong start in their Dec. 21 home game when a second and third quarter lull allowed the Lady Panthers of Pineview back into the game.
But, as expected, Carbon regained its composure and was able to send the southern Utah team home with a lump of coal in their stockings by administering a 63-48 defeat.
Trailing 7-17 after the first quarter, it appeared as though the Lady Panthers were in for a long night. However, some lights-out perimeter shooting by Pineview slowed the Carbon onslaught and allowed the Lady Panthers to enter the half with only a seven point deficit. Half time score was 29-22.
In the third quarter, Pineview continued to close the gap, outscoring the Lady Dinos 17-14 and reducing the lead to two baskets. That was as close as the Lady Panthers would come, though. The Lady Dinos finished the fourth quarter on a 20-9 high note, entering the Christmas break with another home win.
Morgan Warburton led the ladies with 23 points, including two from behind the three-point line. Halee Rasmussen and Jamie King added 13 and 11 points respectively.
With the win, Carbon improves to 8-1 on the season. Pineview drops to 5-3.
The Lady Dinos will break for the Christmas holiday and won’t return to the court until Dec. 29 in an away game against Cottonwood.
They also have two more non-league games before the regular season begins with Union High in Roosevelt on Jan. 4 and a home game with Central High School from Grand Junction, Colo. on Jan, 7. That game will begin at 5:30 p.m. because the Colorado school is bringing both it’s boys and girls teams and the boys will play at 7:30 p.m. That game will be the only out-of-state competion the Lady Dinos will face this season.
The Region 8 season will begin on Jan. 11 against Emery High at Emery.
