Brandi Karren storms past a Grand player for control of the ball during Carbon’s 2-1 win on Thursday. The team is currently 1-2-0 in Region 8.

Goals from Kim Capalbo and Tabby Cummins secured Carbon a 2-1 win over Moab’s Grand High School on Sept. 9.
“I think we played well,” head coach Tanya Henrie commented. “We made good passes and the team played well together.”
The Lady Dinos took the early, 1-0 lead when Capalbo took advantage of a feed to the front of the Grand goal.
Cummins would add the winning goal in the second half.
Carbon goalkeeper Elisabeth Smith kept Carbon ahead with tough play in front of the net. Only one Grand shot made it past the sophomore keeper.
The junior varsity squad also took away a 2-0 win over
The win is Carbon’s first Region 8 victory of the season.
The team had previously fallen to North Sanpete and Delta.
The Lady Dinos are currently 2-8-0 in season play and 1-2-0 in the region standings. Grand drops to 0-3-1 in Region 8 and 3-5-1 on the season.
“[The team] is starting to get a fire underneath them to win more and play harder,” pointed out Henrie.
Carbon will travel to Lehi Thursday to face the Pioneers.
Henrie expects the large school to have a tough team as always, but said the Lady Dinos are definitely talented enough to win.
