Dino football started the 2004 season on Aug. 20 with a 33-0 loss to San Juan. The team will regroup this week for Friday’s matchup against Uintah.

The Carbon Lady Dinos have met with little resistance in the early season, defeating Uintah, Wasatch and Timpview in three straight games each.
The team has quickly rebounded after losing the majority of their varsity experienced players last season. Setter Monica Shorts, middle Morgan Warburton and outside hitter Jamie King lead the team this season as seasoned varsity athletes.
According to coach Bruce Bean, all three have helped guide the team, especially Shorts as the primary team setter.
“We can’t keep her off the floor, she’s doing so good,” he commented.
Carbon runs an eight or nine person rotation, getting a variety of skill from the constantly changing players.
Bean said that although the rotation can be tough because everybody wants to play all the way around, the changing chemistry on the court has proven successful for the team.
King and fellow outside hitter Courtney Young have been very strong for the team. Additionally, off-hand hitter Halee Rasmussen, middle Maquette Potts and Brooke Herrick have rounded out a strong squad.
“We have some girls stepping up,” Bean pointed out.
The team will be faced with a tough schedule this week, playing Union at home on Sept. 8 and Judge Memorial away on Sept. 9.
This weekend, Carbon’s junior varsity and sophomore teams will host a large tournament at the high school.
Twenty-four teams will compete in the two day event, beginning Friday.
Bean said the Carbon tournament, which has been hosted annually by the Lady Dinos with the help of College of Eastern Utah’s volleyball team, has been successful in bringing some of the best teams in the state. Several teams had to be turned away because of demand.
