By Sun Advocate

Carbon High School’s cross country track team got off to a good start at the Richfield Invitational with a third place finish for the boys team. The run took place Sept. 1.
Paul Goodrich placed third in a time of 17:32, just eight seconds out of first place. Jacob Perez placed in the medals, taking fifth out of the 65 contestants. Ted Prettyman finished in 14th place and freshman Beau Morley finished 23rd in his first high school race.
Jordan Burrows crossed the finish line in 38th, followed by Layne Prince six seconds later. Freshman Ken Olsen was Carbon’s seventh athlete to complete the run.
Pleasant Grove also invited the team to a large invitational meet on Sept. 4. Paul Goodrich again led the team, placing sixth in the freshman-sophomore section. David Goodrich and Perez placed 31st and 32nd respectively. Prettyman completed the race in 51st place, followed by teammates Morley, Prince and Olsen. Approximately 200 runners competed in the run.
In the girls section, Brittany Horrocks led the girls, followed by Paige Morley, Jana Burrows and Cassandra Bettino.
The runners also left Tuesday’s meet against Delta High with a pair of second place finishes. For the boys team, Paul Goodrich finished second, Perez took third, David Goodrich finished fifth, Prettyman took 13th and Beau Morley took 14th.
In the girls division, no school was able to field a full team so only the top three runners were counted for points. Paige Morley placed fourth, Ashley Anderson placed seventh and Horrocks finished 10th.
