Six CEU Business Club Members Win State Awards

By Sun Advocate

Six members of the College of Eastern Utah’s business club proved themselves to be some of the best in state at this year’s PBL State Leadership Conference held in Provo. Competitors had the opportunity to pit themselves against students from Utah’s colleges and universities in a variety of business-skill related competitions.
One winner in each event automatically qualifies to attend this year’s National Leadership Conference to be held in Denver, Colo., in July.
CEU’s delegation aspired to take first place in all events and to send as many students as possible to nationals. A semester of studying hard in business classes and practicing presentations paid off in the end because six CEU students qualified to represent Utah at this year’s leadership conference in Denver.
They include the team of Shanielle Howa, Melissa Liggett, Donald McCarty and Erik Falor who took first place in the parliamentary procedures event.
This is the second year that CEU has won this event and sent students to the national competition. Last year’s team, composed of Howa, Falor, and former CEU Eagles Ashley Turner and Jenifer Jones took fourth place at the national competition in Dallas, Tex.
Also placing from CEU was William Lanier who took first place in impromptu speaking, and will go to nationals. Rebecca Coster placed first in public speaking out of a field of 26 competitors. Falor will also represent Utah and CEU in the national C plus programming event.
“Winning this honor makes the year of hard work all worth it,” commented McCarty.
