A two-vehicle traffic accident near Soldier Summit last Friday claimed the life of an Orangeville man and the law enforcement investigation into the incident resulted in the arrest of an Arizona motorist on an automobile homicide charge.
The Nov. 5 fatal accident occurred at 2:50 a.m. after a westbound 1995 Ford F250 pickup truck operated by Jeffrey Grunwald, age 40 of Paige, Ariz., reportedly drifted off the right side of U.S. Highway 6 at the curve east of the Summit, indicated Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. David Bennion during an interview Monday.
Grunwald purportedly overcorrected and the Ford pickup crossed the center line of the canyon roadway, colliding into the driver’s side of a 2000 four-door Saturn sedan operated by 43-year-old Joseph Lott of Orangeville.
The force of the collision fatally injured Lott and the Orangeville resident apparently died on impact, explained Bennion. Lott and Grunwald were the sole occupants traveling inside the Saturn and Ford pickup at the time of the crash and both drivers were wearing safety belts when the vehicles collided.
Following the preliminary investigation at the scene of the fatal traffic accident, law enforcement officers arrested Grunwald and transported the Arizona motorist to Heber City, confirmed Bennion. The authorities booked the suspect into the Wasatch County Jail on the automobile homicide charge in connection with the fatal traffic accident.
