Letter to the Editor: Pay and pay

By Sun Advocate

Editor:
There was an interesting letter in the Sun Advocate on July 29 by Robert Clay titled “Start with his wife.” The letter recounts the savings in income tax payments by Teresa Heinz Kerry.
Apparently the author has a short memory. It was just two or three years ago that the Bush administration pushed through revisions in the income tax structure, an action aimed to benefit the wealthy.
Mrs. Kerry, wealthy as the heiress to the Heinz fortune, benefits from these revisions in the income tax just as all other well to do Americans. If these provisions to benefit the wealthy persist through the next ten years it is estimated that the well to do people in this country will benefit the tune of $1.7 trillion.
Meanwhile the middle class will continue to pay and pay.
