Two entities in Carbon County and one in Sevier County will receive $600,180 from the Utah Permanent Community Impact Fund Board for local improvement projects.
The board approved grants for the following organizations and projects.
The Carbon County Municipal Building Authority was given $272,180 for the purchase and installation of lights at the county’s softball complex near the county fairgrounds in Price. The operators of the field approached the county commission in recent months about safety problems due to poor lighting and lighting placement at the fields.
Wellington also received money. They were authorized $250,000 to purchase a new firetruck to replace an older, mechanically deteriorating truck they presently have in service.
The Sevier County town of Elsinore was given $78,000 for to buy a truck, backhoe, and trailer.
The Community Impact Board is a program of the Utah Division of Community Development. It helps state and local agencies and entities that are, or may be, directly or indirectly impacted by mineral resource development on nearby federal lands and the exclusion of those lands from the local tax base. The board provides assistance through grants and low-interest loans for the planning, construction, and maintenance of public facilities.
The funds also help community agencies provide public services.
