Susan Tonc
SANDY-Susan Kay Tonc, age 54, passed away Friday, October 10, 2003 after a courageous 14 years battle with cancer.
She was born Feb. 25, 1949 to Shirley (Neuman) and H. Jack Moyes in Salt Lake City. She married Anton Tonc in 1980 in Lake Tahoe Nev. Lake Tahoe was her favorite place to visit, she returned every year with her best friend and life long partner to celebrate their anniversary. Her other soul mate in life was her grandson, Zach, she raised as one of her own.
She was a parishioner at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Sandy and a full supporter of Blessed Sacrament School. She worked for Utah Power and Light from 1969 to 1980 and was president of ICPE from 1990 to 2002. Susan graduated from West High Class of 1967. She attended the University of Utah and graduated with a bachelors degree in psychology and gerontology. She loved learning and giving to others. During her work on her gerontology she was a hospice volunteer.
Susan leaves behind husband, Anton Tonc; mother, Shirley (friend Jay), Moyes; in-laws, Tony and Edith Tonc; brother-in-law, Vincent (Sheila) Tonc; children, Shannon (partner Mark Humphries) Nelson, Tony Tonc, Nick Tonc, and Zach Nelson; brothers, Larry Moyes and Kenny (Tracy) Moyes; and grandchildren, Jordann, Madison and Hillary. Preceded in death by father, H. Jack Moyes; daughter, Brandi Lee; and brother, Don Moyes.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to all of the friends who were so supportive of her during her illness. We all will miss this incredible woman, her light touched so many of our lives. In lieu of flowers you many send donations to the cancer research center of your choice.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, Oct. 15, 11 a.m., at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 1725 E. 9600 South where friends may call Tuesday, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. under the direction of Neil O’Donnell and Sons.
Archie Ward
PROVO – Archie Thomas Ward, age 88, died October 9, 2003 in Provo.
He was born Dec. 14, 1914 in Provo, to Alfred Joseph and Ada Gibbons Ward. He married Gilda Weeks, they later divorced. He married Dorothy Haycock Sept. 2, 1965.
Archie attended elementary schools in Provo and graduated from Lincoln High School. He worked as a rancher during his young years, and had a small dairy farm, following his military service in the Navy during WWII. He worked for Provo School District, and helped with the building of Provo High School. After the high school opened, he worked there doing maintenance.
He is survived by wife of Provo; son, Thomas Gene (Sandra) Ward, Price; two stepsons, Jim (Sherrie) Marshall, Sunnyside; Art (Mercedes) Marshall,. Draper; three grandchildren, Shawn T. Ward, Krikit Butcher and Tiffany Tease; two brothers, Vern Ward, Sandy; Karl Ward, Salt Lake; and one sister, Ada Ward, Provo He was preceded in death by three infant sons, Monte, Duane, and Johnny; and stepdaughter, June Prettyman.
Graveside services were Oct. 13, at the Cleveland City cemetery. under the direction of Berg Mortuary of Provo.
Lyle Bryner
PRICE – Lyle Bryce “Snookie” Bryner, 80, passed away Oct. 9, 2003 from pneumonia and a fight with cancer. His family was at his side.
He was born Dec. 11, 1922 in Price to Junius Birch and Mary Ann Bryce Bryner. He married his sweetie, CeCelia Jewkes Nov. 9, 1950 in the Manti LDS Temple. After his wife, CeCelia passed away in 1999, he found special love again and married Katie Bowles, Sept. 18, 2001.
Lyle was a lifelong resident of Carbon County and raised his family while living the simple life of a farmer and rancher. He was a musician, teaching himself to play the mandolin. He found great joy in sharing his musical talent and brought happiness to countless others. He excelled at sports and earned All-State high school honors in basketball and football and he helped lead Carbon High to the ’41 State Football Championship Final.
Lyle served in WWII in the U.S. Army, 10th Mountain Division, fighting in the mountains of Italy. His fellow “army buddies” were among his most treasured friends and he stayed in contact with many through regular reunions and correspondence his entire life. Highly patriotic and civic minded he served on numerous agricultural and water boards and communities for over 50 years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and his grandsons and joking around. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and shared his sense of humor with everyone. Lyle only knew two kinds of people; friends and people he hadn’t met. He was a friend to everyone, no matter their religion, position, or the size of their wallet.
Lyle was LDS and his favorite of many callings was nursing home coordinator for Sunday services, where his family and loving personality brought joy to his elderly friends.
Survived by wife, Katie; son, Ross (Shauna); daughter, Marie (Dave) Bowles; brothers, Ted and Max; three grandsons; and special niece, Jackie Oman, all of Price. Preceded in death by parents; first wife, CeCelia; four brothers and one baby sister.
Funeral services will be Tueday, Oct. 14, 11 a.m.at the Wellington LDS Stake Center. Viewing one hour prior to services at the church. Burial, Price City Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Mabel Gustas
PRICE/RICHFIELD – Mabel Lewis Gustas, 88, of Richfield and formerly of Price, passed away Oct. 11, 2003 in Richfield.
She was born June 25, 1915 in Lawrence to Morgan and Mary Madora Wilcock Lewis. She married George Gustas Aug. 24, 1933 in Heber City. He preceded her in death Oct. 1, 1962.
Mabel was a member of the LDS Church and the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was the first woman scout leader in the church. She also served as a primary teacher and a Sunday school teacher.
She is survived by daughters, Deanna (Robert) Stoddard, Las Vegas, Nev.; Sharon (Steven) Wall, Richfield; daughter-in-law, Carole Gustas, Price; six grandchildren and two great-granddaughters; brother and sisters, Russell (Charolotte) Dean Lewis, Salt Lake City; Vera Walters, American Fork; Maureen Anderson, Price; and Cleo Muhlestein, Orem. Preceded in death by parents; husband, George; sons, George Nicholos Gustas and Gary Morgan Gustas; three brothers, Glen, Ross and Christopher Lewis; and three sisters, Luella Dickman, Florine Lewis and May Walters.
Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 17, 1 p.m., in the Price LDS 4th Ward Chapel, 545 E. 400 North, Price. Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary on Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. and at the ward chapel in Price on Friday after 12 noon. Burial, Price City Cemetery under the direction of Neal S. Magleby & Sons Mortuary, 50 S. 100 West, Richfield.
