Charnelle Manson
PRICE/SANTA CLARA – Charnelle McAllister Manson, 65, beloved piano teacher and family historian, died of cancer Monday, Oct. 20, 2003 in Santa Clara.
She was born in Kanab, on Aug. 6, 1938 as the first daughter and fourth child of Boyd and LaVerde Pugh McAllister. She married George William Manson Jr. Dec. 21, 1957 and cheerfully followed him around the western United States for the 36 years of George’s mining career.
After a happy childhood with her four brothers and two sisters in Kanab, Charnelle attended SUSC, where her beautiful soprano voice landed her the lead in the school’s opera, “La Traviata”. She created lovely homes for their family in Moab; Grants, N.Mex.; Pueblo, Colo.; Sacramento, Calif.; Tucson, Ariz.; and Price.
Charnelle’s talents were many and through the years she served over and over again as a community and church leader, botanical beautifier, writer and musical performer. She was a beloved piano teacher in Price and Santa Clara for over 25 years whose students benefitted from both her musical experience and positive inspiration. Since George’s retirement to Santa Clara in 1994, Charnelle’s passion has been compiling and composing volumes of family histories. In addition to her extensive personal documentation collections, she has published five hardbound books of carefully researched historical and genealogical accounts of thousands of ancestors to benefit generations of posterity. We are grateful she was given enough time at the end to finish and publish her own life history volume. She leaves her family and friends with an inspirational legacy of music, humor, beauty, love and family commitment.
Charnelle is survived by husband, George of Santa Clara; children, Andy (Azita) Manson of San Jose, Calif.; Natalie (David) Richardson of Papillion, Neb.; Kristan (Tom) Potter of Huntington; grandchildren, Scott, Kurt, Russell, Kevin and RaShelle Bradley, Justin, Nathan and Brooklynn Potter and new little Kiana Manson; brothers, Larry, Sam, Dean and Byron McAllister; sisters, Ida Black and Mary Spencer; a loving aunt and uncle; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by mother and father, mother-in-law and father-in-law, and many aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 24, 11 a.m., at the Santa Clara LDS 9th Ward Chapel, 3680 Pioneer Parkway,. Viewing will be 9:30a.m. to 10:45a.m. Friday at the same location. Interment services will be Saturday, Oct. 25, 11 a.m. in the Eastlawn Memorial Hills Cemetery, 4800 North 653 East, Provo, under the direction of Mosdell Mortuary of Kanab.
