Lady Dinos compete in St. George softball tournament

The Carbon Dinos junior varsity softball team is swinging into action. The team has competed against several varsity teams and has proven that they will be a strong team this year.

The Carbon High softball team continues to prepare for the regular season. This past week, the Dinos competed in several games. The first of which was against Pineview.
The Dinos junior varsity team competed against Pineview’s varsity squad. The team fared quite well as they defeated Pineview, 8-4.
The sophomore Dino squad also dominated the field as they defeated Pineview’s sophomore team, 21-7.
Following this game, the Dinos traveled south to compete in the annual St. George softball tourney.
Sixteen teams competed in the event and the Dinos placed fourth overall in the tourney.
In their first game, the Dinos competed against Canyonview and the Carbon team swept the game by winning, 7-1.
The Dinos then moved on to compete against Park City. The Carbon squad found themselves in trouble in the final inning.
The team was down by three runs. At this point, the Dinos came alive to score four runs to win the game, 6-5.
In their third game, the Dinos faced a team from Boulder City, Nev. The Dinos came from behind to win the ball game, 7-6.
Because the Dinos won their first three games, the team was placed in the top bracket of the tournament.
Carbon lost the next two games which was against Juan Diego and Grantsville.
Despite the losses, the Dinos still took home fourth place honors.
The team will continue action this Thursday as they travel to Castle Dale to take on the Emery Spartans in the first game of the regular Region 8 season.
Carbon coach Tony Pinedo feels that this year’s team will be a strong competitior in the region.
The junior varsity team is also expected to be a dominant force in softball this season.
