Training on the new taser guns recently acquired by the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office includes experiencing the shock firsthand as local correctional officers Ed Chavez, Ed Ellis and Travis Henrie learned last week.
The new guns can eliminate the use of deadly force in potentially volatile situations.
Unlike earlier versions of the law enforcement weapons, which required deputies to be up close and personal with a subject, the new type of gun can be shot from 21 feet and will control the strongest of opponents.
Included in the training were instructions on the use of the weapon, when the gun should and should not be used, aiming and shooting the device, as demonstrated by Carbon County Deputy Dale Maxfield.
Sheriff James Cordova says each police vehicle will be armed with one of the devices and there will also be one in the jail for personnel there to use if necessary, indicated the Carbon County Sherriff.
