The planet Mars hovers in the evening sky above Pinnacle Peak. Last week, Mars ventured closer to the Earth than the planet has been in more than 60,000 years. Through the end of August, Mars was the brightest object visible in the sky, except the sun. The planet will not be this close again for 270 years.
