Rhonda Bogdin
CARBONVILLE – Rhonda Mae Cowan Bentley Bogdin, age 52, passed away April 6, 2003 at her home.
She was born April 20, 1950 in Price, to Byrnell “Konky” and Ramona “Mona” Reaveley Cowan. Married Charles “Chuck” Bentley Aug. 17, 1968 in Hiawatha, later divorced. Married Leland “Lee” Bogdin Feb. 15, 1991 in Price.
Rhonda was a lifelong resident of Carbon County, where she graduated from Carbon High School and the College of Eastern Utah nursing program. She was a former employee of the Carbon County ambulance for 18 years and chief flight nurse with Med Arrow.
Rhonda enjoyed her work and she was presently employed at Castleview Hospital as house supervisor. She enjoyed reading, caring for her family and friends and, most of all, she loved being “Grammy” to her grandchildren.
She will be dearly missed by her family and a community of friends.
Survived by husband, Lee Bogdin, Carbonville; son, Justin Bentley and Melany, Price; daughter, Heather Marrelli, Carbonville; brother, Jerel Cowan, Ogden; daughter, Teddi Montgomery, West Valley; son, Ronnie (Shelley) Bogdin, Price; daughter, LeAnna (Robert) Sanderson, Riverton; Grammy’s grandchildren, Tannin, Kaylab, Brielle, Brenna, London, Brandy, Jerykka and Daryann; special sister, Cathy Bonomo, M.D., St. George; and many dear friends and co-workers who will miss her dearly. Preceded in death by parents.
Funeral service Thursday, April 10, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday one hour prior to service. Interment, Cliffview Cemetery, Price.
Veloy Sorenson
SUNNYSIDE – Veloy Bradley Sorenson, age 77, passed away April 3, 2003 at the home he loved.
He was born Oct. 2, 1925 in Moroni to John Odell and Christiana Bradley Sorenson. He married Janet Monson May 19, 1943, later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. She passed away July 10, 1993. He later married Amy Bishop Sept. 2, 1995 in Cleveland.
As an active member of the LDS Church, he served as bishop in the Sunnyside LDS Ward. And for six years, he worked as an ordinance worker at the Manti LDS Temple, which he dearly loved.
He enjoyed riding his four- wheeler, pitching horseshoes, and spent many happy hours with his family while camping, fishing and hunting.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his dear wife, Amy; children, Kathy and Grant Bean, East Carbon; Ray and Anna Lee Sorenson, Price; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; stepdaughters, Judi Bishop, Cleveland; Gwen Allen, West Valley; five step-grandchildren; and 10 step-great-grandchildren, all of whom he dearly loved. Also survived by a brother, John A. Sorenson, American Fork. Preceded in death by one granddaughter, DelRay Bean; sister; brother; and stepson, Bill Bishop.
Funeral services were Monday, April 7, at the East Carbon LDS Chapel. Burial followed in the Moroni Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Jay Anderson
SALT LAKE CITY – Former resident of Price, Jay Albert Anderson, passed away April 4, 2003 after a brief illness.
He was born March 17, 1918 to Albert and Clara Peacock Anderson in Sterling, Sanpete County. He married Barbara Ann Nelson in the Manti LDS Temple Nov. 9, 1951.
He was a descendant of pioneer families who were sent to the Sanpete Valley in 1849. He was a World War II veteran, serving as a sergeant in the field artillery in Europe and the Pacific.
Moving from Manti, they quickly learned to love the cultural diversity and landscape of eastern Utah, making lifelong friendships during their 28 years in Price.
Jay was employed by the department of agriculture, managing the Carbon County office of the agricultural stabilization and conservation service.
Active in civic and church affairs, he was a past member of the Carbon County Sheriff’s Posse and Price City Fire Department as well as a supporter of CEU. As a high priest, he served as an assistant stake clerk for the Carbon LDS Stake under President Duane A. Frandsen and on the stake welfare committee.
Taking an early retirement, Jay and Barbara moved to Salt Lake City to be near their children and Jay’s older sister, Margaret.
He is survived by wife of 51 years; son, J. Scott Anderson; daughter, Tracy Ann Furlow; and her children, Marymelissa, Kirk, Michael, Kai, Clara and Randi Rose. Preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jerilyn; parents; sister, Margaret Anderson; and two infant sisters.
Services will be Wednesday, April 9, noon, at the Parley’s LDS Stake Center, 1870 E. Parley’s Canyon Boulevard (2300 South), Salt Lake City. Friends may call Tuesday evening at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 South, Salt Lake, from 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment, Manti City Cemetery.
Annie Sieckmann
WELLINGTON – Annie Elisabeth Nelson Sieckmann, age 96, passed away April 4, 2003 in Price.
She was born May 10, 1906 in Rigby, Idaho, to Hans F. and Olive Christensen Jorgensen. She married Clarence Nelson April 24, 1924 in Castle Dale, later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. He passed away in 1978. Elisabeth later married Howard Sieckmann in 1982.
Elisabeth was an accomplished artist and was skilled in knitting, crocheting, quilting and doing embroidery. She had a green thumb and enjoyed her flowers and working in her garden.
As a member of the LDS Church, she served in numerous callings.
She is survived by husband, Howard; children, Dwane and Lola Nelson, Wellington; Renae and Wade Hill, Wellington; Beth Barnier, Santa Clara; eight grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by brother, Leonard Jorgensen; and sisters, Bernetta Lindquist and Maxine Price. Preceded in death by husband; daughter, Twila Barnes; grandsons, Ken Hill and George Hill; granddaughter, Annette; and four great-grandchildren.
The family would like to acknowledge the kindness and love expressed by all of Howard’s family.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 8, 11 a.m. in the Wellington 1st/4th LDS Ward building where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial, Wellington Cemetery.
