Eagles rebound from slow season start

The College of Eastern Utah baseball team opened up the year slow as they found themselves in a slump.
The Eagles rebounded from the disappointment this past weekend as they hosted the Utah Valley State College Wolverines.
In two days, the team played four games and walked away with three wins over UVSC.
In game one, Eagles pitcher, Pat Wells manned the mound for the entire game and captured the 2-1 win over the Wolverines.
The Eagles scored both of their runs in the bottom of the third when Jeremy Harris hit a blooper over the shortstop’s head to score Dusty Stover.
Harris then scored when Stover got in a pinch between first and second giving Harris time to slide in ahead of the throw.
The only run which UVSC scored came in the top of the fifth. The rally was short lived and the Eagles were pleased with the early weekend win.
The only loss of the weekend the Eagles suffered came in the second game Friday as the team fell to the Wolverines, 5-2.
The Eagles got a run in both the first and third innings and led 2-1 going into the top of the fifth.
Utah Valley then scored three runs after starting pitcher, Kalen Parsons who gave up a double, single and home run.
AJ Stosich finished the game on the mound for the Eagles, but the team was unable to launch a rally.
Saturday’s events kicked off with storm clouds covering the eastern Utah sky, but the teams took to the field anyway.
During the bottom of the fourth inning, the Eagles were leading UVSC, 2-0 when a hailstorm errupted.
The game was postponed and the second game canceled until Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles kicked of Sunday’s action strong as they downed the Wolverines, 3-0 in the first game of a double header.
In the final game of the weekend, the Eagles captured their third win of the week by the final, 6-5 in eight innings.
The CEU ball club was scheduled to compete in Logan on Tuesday against Utah State’s club team.
The team then turned around to compete Wednesday against Weber State in Ogden.
CEU will also play this Saturday against a group of alumni all-stars on their home field.
Currently, the Eagles record stands at 7-9 in Scenic West Athletic Conference games and 13-18 overall.
The Eagles have won six of their last eight games and look forward to improving their current record.
