Mine rescue competitors conduct first aid procedures on an accident victim.

Mine rescue teams from across the country gathered in Carbon County last week to compete in the annual Rocky Mountain Coal Mine Rescue competition.
This year’s event challenged each team and enabled the squads to display their first aid and rescue skills along with pre-shift examination knowledge.
This year, the Energy West team from Huntington had a successful competition by placing first in the combination category as well as the mine rescue, first aid, pre-shift and bench 174-A categories.
The Utah team finished in the top three in each event conducted with a second and third place finish in the first aid category. With three separate teams entered in this event, the Energy West group swept the category.
Because of Carbon County’s long history in the coal industry, this event is conducted each year in the Price area.
