Forward Kim Capalbo moves the ball upfield in a recent Carbon game. Lady Dinos went 1-3 last weekend in the Union Tournament. Capalbo’s goal against Union helped lift the Dinos to their 3-1 win.

Carbon High soccer had three close games this weekend at the Union tournament but only came home with one win.
The Lady Dinos started the tournament off against South Summit.
Coach Dave Capalbo said the team spent most of the game on offense. However, goal attempts seemed to find the posts, the crossbar and the sky.
Dinos lost 3-1.
“We passed the ball around accurately and everybody moved when and where they should have, Capalbo commented. “We outshot them 24-16 for the game. It was a team we should have beaten.”
The second game pitted Carbon against the tournament host, Union.
Dinos gave up a goal early in the game to the Cougars, despite holding them to only three shots.
The score was 1-0 at halftime.
Dinos played with renewed energy in the second half, though. Sophomores Kim Capalbo, Tabby Cummins and Brandi Karren all scored for Carbon, giving them a 3-1 win.
Dinos rested for less than an hour and were back on the field against Spanish Fork.
Carbon kept up with the 4A team, thanks to a second half header assist by Sarah Gileadi to Lacey Timothy. Timothy tied the game 1-1.
A lapse in defensive coverage allowed for Spanish Fork to sneak in the game winning goal. Dinos lost 2-1.
Three Carbon players were named to the all-tournament team. Forward Heather Hughes, stopper Whitney Montoya and goalie Dani Long were all recognized for their outstanding play.
Lady Dino soccer will be back home this Thursday, Aug. 28 against North Sanpete. Varsity begins at 3:30 followed by the JV at 5 p.m.
