Time to change

By Sun Advocate

Life seems to take several twists and turns, and most of the time these are unexpected changes. This is the time that you must make difficult decisions and reevaluate your life style.
Recently, I have had several events in my life happen that made me sit and seriously think about the direction I want my life to go in. I had to make a decision that would affect several people close to me, but at this point I feel I have made the right choice.
As of August 15, I am going to set my career aside and become a stay at home mom and wife. Although I will return to work as a part time employee in late September after having my second child, I plan an focusing on those who mean the most to me; my family.
Now I realize that I have a unique opportunity to follow this ambition where many women would not be able to. I feel that it would be selfish if I continued to work the unpredictable hours that a news reporter juggles just because I enjoy my job.
Instead of sticking to the late hours and weekend shifts, I will now have the time to change diapers and assist my older daughter with homework. The weirdest thing of all, I look forward to eating dinner at an hour prior to 9 p.m.
It seems like it’s the simple things in life that you miss and it usually takes an unexpected turn in the road to make you realize how important these things are.
Often times, we go through our lives accomplishing only daily tasks. We don’t take the time to look at what we are missing because often, we are too busy to do so. Therefore, I challenge everyone to take the time and think about what is really important in their life.
Although many people can’t enjoy the opportunity to set their job aside to spend more time with those close to them, it is important to try and change things so that valuable time is not lost. After all, you can’t get back the memories that are missed. The sad fact is that children grow up quickly and they surely don’t get any younger.
For nearly two years I have had the opportunity to work in this great community as a reporter. I will truly miss this part of my job.
Although I have been a resident of Carbon County all my life, I never quite realized how diverse this area is and what a great place this is to live.
As a reporter, I have come to realize just what a special place Carbon County is and I thank the community for giving me the chance to follow my dreams.
But for now, my road has taken a turn and I have chosen to take advantage of the opportunity to be with my family and enjoy the simple things in life.
I will miss those I have been fortunate to work with and those who I have met along my journeys at the Sun Advocate. But the flip side of the coin is that I can do my part in raising two young children that are the future of this community and hopefully will make a difference in the future of Carbon County.
