Jeanette Evans
WELLINGTON – Jeanette Pauline Viens Evans, age 64, silently slipped away peacefully under the prayers of her husband and children May 18, 2003 in Salt Lake City.
She was born Aug. 30, 1938 in Los Angeles, Calif., to William J. and Louise Rohr Viens. Jeanette married Marvin Eugene Evans Dec. 7, 1957 in San Diego, Calif., and was a wonderful loving mother to Debbie, Robert and Loretta.
Mom enjoyed history, dancing, photography, singing and travel.
Because of her love to share her knowledge of history and rock art, she started her own tour business, Reflections of the Ancients, giving tours in Nine-Mile Canyon and the San Rafael Swell.
She really loved people and building new relationships, especially with her new found brother, Art, and his family.
She was an active member of the Catholic Church, the archeology society, the Carbon County Travel Council and the Nine-Mile Coalition.
She had a very giving nature and was loved by many.
Jeanette will always be remembered for her intelligence, witty and fun loving personality.
Survived by husband, Marvin Evans, Wellington; children, Debbie (Rick) Laughlin, Salt Lake; Robert (Carol) Evans, Helper; Loretta Van Wagner, Sandy; brother, Arthur (Margaret) Edwards, Grand Junction, Colo.; and seven wonderful grandchildren. Preceded in death by infant son, Daniel; parents; one sister and two brothers.
Funeral Mass Thursday, May 22, 10 a.m., Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church. Vigil service Wednesday evening, 7 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Wednesday and Thursday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Wellington City Cemetery.
Harriet Melosi
PRICE – Our beloved wife, mother, sister and hero, Harriet Lee Melosi, passed away May 17, 2003 at her home around those she loved after a valiant fight with cancer.
She was born March 26, 1948 in Pocatello, Idaho, to James W. and Helen L. Will Rodda. She married Dennis Martin Melosi April 1, 1973 in Butte, Mont..
She loved stained glass, antique collecting, softball, skiing, swimming, sculpting, traveling, decorating and living life to its fullest. “Just don’t ask her to cook.”
She was a loving and devoted wife and mother and an extremely spiritual woman. She was a radiology technician for many years.
Survivors include her husband, Dennis of Price; children, Megan and Nickels Melosi of Price; brothers, Jimi Rodda of San Jose, Calif.; Pat Rodda of Brentwood, Calif.; Mike Rodda of Cameron Park, Calif.; sisters, Kathy Perry of Eugene, Ore. and Sharon Jones of Santa Cruz, Calif. She was preceded in death by parents.
At her request, a private family service will be conducted in California, with private interment to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Rocky Mountain Hospice Association, 60 E. 100 North, Price, UT 84501 for all their help and support. Funeral arrangements were handled by Fausett Mortuary, Price.
Ralph Fossat Sr.
PRICE-Ralph Fossat Sr. age 84, passed away at his home in Price May 19, 2003.
He was born Aug. 21, 1918 in Helper to Louis & Catherine Castagna Fossat. He married Lois Coleen Draper on Jan. 24, 1944 in Helper and their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.
Dad loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping. He couldn’t go for a ride without taking his chainsaw to cut wood. He also enjoyed baking, but most of all, he loved his family and spending time with them. He was so proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints.
Retired from UMWA Local 9958- Kaiser Steel.
He is survived by his wife, Lois of Price; children, Ron (Irene) Fossat of Twin Falls, Idaho; Lianne (Michael) Milovich of Price; Ray Louis (Kathy) Fossat of Cedar City; daughter-in-law, Rose Fossat of Price. Also survived by 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two brothers, Albert and William Fossat of Helper. He was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Eugene Fossat; an infant daughter, Ava Dawn Fossat; two infant great-grandsons; five brothers, Ernest, Mike, Victor, Alfred and Joseph Fossat; two sisters, Irene Hislop and Pauline Tsangaris.
Friends may call for a visitation May 20 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary. Graveside services will be Wednesday, May 21, at 1 p.m. at the Castle Dale City Cemetery, with interment to follow.
Herbert Preston
EAST CARBON – Herbert Duane Preston, age 75, passed away May 18, 2003 in Provo from a lengthy illness surrounded by family.
He was born Dec. 5, 1927 in Royal to Ralph and Hilda Preston. He married Elma Smith Aug. 29, 1950 in Sunnyside.
Herbert was a member of the LDS Church. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He was a member of the United Mine Workers Horse Canyon Local 8003. He was a member of the East Carbon volunteer fire department for 50 years.
Survived by wife and children, Duane (Vicki), Betty (Craig), Joe (Loraine), Scott (Jamie), Connie, Danette (Jim), and Hilda; brothers, LaMar (Lynda), Ronnie, Bill (Faye); sister, Ruth; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by parents; two brothers, sister and grandson-in-law.
He will be missed by all his family and a community of friends.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 23, 11 a.m., at the East Carbon LDS Church, with a viewing one hour prior to services. The family will be at Fausett Mortuary Thursday, May 22, from 7 to 9 p.m. Interment, Valley View Cemetery in Sunnyside.
James McFall
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – James Leslie McFall Jr., born March 8, 1922 in Colorado Springs, Colo., the son of James Leslie McFall Sr. and Ellen Peterson McFall, passed away May 14, 2003 at his home surrounded by loved ones of causes incident to multiple myeloma.
He was raised in Carbon County, graduated from Carbon High School and Utah State University in Logan. He taught school in Carbon County, then honorably served his country as an officer in the United States Army in both World War II and again in the Korean conflict.
While serving in Japan, he met his wife, Dorothy, who was also serving in the Army.They were married June 7, 1952 and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year.
Jim worked for Boeing as a procurement manager from 1952 to 1987.
Jim loved to play golf with his golfing buddies and travel with his wife, family and friends.
Jim was a wonderful, compassionate and loving husband to Dot and father to his two children, Cindy (Bill) and Jim (Trudie), and grandfather to Cassandra and a wonderful son and brother to his family. He was respected and greatly loved by all in return. He is also survived by sisters, Joanne (Sharon) McDonald and Carol Anne (Lynn) Nielsen.
He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends.
Services were Monday, May 19, at the Redondo LDS Ward, Federal Way, Wash. Committal service Tuesday, May 20, 11:30 a.m., at the Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 SE 240th, Kent, Wash.
