The Lady Eagles basketball team at the College of Eastern Utah prepare to compete in the final two games of the regular season this weekend.
Before entering the final stages of the season however, the Eagles competed in two games this past weekend.
The team started the weekend off by traveling to Rangley, Colo. to take on the Colorado Northwestern Spartans.
The Eagles felt that this would be an easy game to win considering the fact that the Spartans have not captured a victory yet this season against Scenic West Athletic Conference teams.
The Eagles were determined not to be the team that would be the first to fall to the struggling Colorado team. They accomplished this goal quite easily as they defeated the Spartans, 70-55.
The following night, the Eagles returned home to host the Utah Valley State College Wolverines. The Eagles knew this would be a challenging game, but the team came out ready for action.
The Wolverines came out strong as the Eagles struggled from the field, shooting only 30 percent in the first half. The Wolverines on the other hand shot 57 percent from the field in the half.
By the halftime, the Eagles trailed UVSC, 41-29.
The Eagles bounced back however in the second half as they played well on the defensive end of the court.
The shooting problems continued to plague the team however as they shot only 31 percent from the field compared to the Wolverines 56 percent.
By the time that the final buzzer sounded, the Eagles had lost to the Wolverines, 75-58 thus, dropping their record to 6-8 against SWAC opponents and 15-13 overall.
Leading scorer for the Eagles was Cassie Warburton who finished the game with 12 points. Kasey Mills followed with 11 points of her own.
The Eagles will look to better their final record this week as the team competes in its final two games of the regular season.
Thursday evening, the Eagles will host Southern Idaho beginning at 6 p.m.
The team will then bounce back and compete Saturday at home against the Salt Lake Community College Bruins in the final game of the regular season.
