AARP drivers safety class – Sessions for motorists ages 50 years and older are scheduled July 30-31 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Southeastern Utah Health District. Call the health district at 637-3671.
Rape crisis hotline – Rape or domestic violence victims in the Carbon-Emery County area may contact the local 24-hour crisis line toll-free at 1-866-894-8610.
Food handlers classes – Two hour sessions are slated Aug. 14 at 9 a.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the health district in Price. Classes will be taught Aug. 15 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the health department in Castle Dale. Test fees required. Contact Claron Bjork at 637-3671.
County history publication – Residents may purchase the Carbon County Historical Society’s spring publication at the museums in Price and Helper.
Defensive driving class – is planned July 27 at the school bus garage in Price from 8 a.m. until noon. People who complete the four-hour course qualify for 50-point reductions on Utah driving records. Registration fees required. Call the Utah Safety Council toll-free at 800-933-5943.
CASA – Court appointed special advocates are trained community volunteers appointed by judges to speak for children appearing in court. Screenings are conducted on all volunteers. For information, call CASA coordinator Tarasina Compagni at 636-3431.
Carbon County RSVP – Volunteers ages 55 year and older are needed. Mileage reimbursement and liability insurance provided.
Lifeline pregnancy assistance, support center – The facility offers free confidential pregnancy testing, verification, counseling and baby supplies. Contact the center’s 24-hour telephone line at 636-0700.
Cans for Care-A-Van – The service is conducting an aluminum can drive to help defray the costs of providing transportation to medical appointments for the elderly and people with disabilities. Bagged cans may be dropped off at Howa’s. For pickup, call the office at 637-9488.
Carbon County Humane Society – The non-profit organization offers monthly spay and neuter clinics at 98 North Carbon Avenue in Price. The group needs old towels and blankets. Members will pick up good used items for the group’s rummage sale. Call the humane society at 637-2908.
Carbon County Animal Shelter- AVID chip pet identification is available at the shelter. Hours are Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Price library – Hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6:45 p.m.; Friday, 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.; closed Saturday and Sunday. The library is sponsoring free summer reading programs for preschool to third grade students and fourth to ninth graders. Story hour is Wednesday at 5 p.m. and Thursday at 1 p.m. Children Pet Pals activities are Tuesday from 2 to 2:30 p.m. Call library at 636-3188.

Family Support & Children’s Justice Center – offers crisis care for families with children from infants to 11 years old. Crisis nursery is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Families may use the nursery for respite, family crisis, court, doctors appointments, medical emergencies, mental health appointments, escaping family violence, attending parenting classes/divorce classes and AA/Narcotic Anonymous meetings. Habitat for Humanity – The group’s work day is slated June 22 at 9 a.m. at the subdivision located at 315 orange Court in Castle Dale. Bring shovels and gloves. Volunteers and donations are welcome. For information, call the Habitat office at 636-3230 between 8 a.m. and noon.
Cancer screening – Southeastern Utah Health District in Price offers checks twice a month for women up to and including age 64. Clinics include breast, pelvic and pap exams at low or no cost. Call the health department at 637-3671 to schedule appointments.
Infant immunization clinics – The health district in Price offers the clinics Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
ABC Learning Center – has books, computers and activities for adults and children. Hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For tutoring appointments, call the center at 888-2061.

Single mothers – Bringing Hope Foundation meets are Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Price Community Center. Single mothers share experiences and learn about community resources. No fees required. Participants must enroll by contacting the foundation at 637-5542.

Castle Valley Center accepting wheelchairs, walkers – The center will write donation receipts for tax record for residents providing used wheelchairs, walkers, etc., to assist students in the Carbon-Emery area. Donated equipment may be dropped off at the center, 755 N. Cedar Hills Drive, Price.
