WBBA Championship Action Continues

A Price National White team member slides into home during a fifth inning rally Tuesday night against Price National Red. The runner was called safe at home chalking up a run for the White team who defeated the Reds 17-7.

The WBBA minor league season is officially over, however the major league is in full swing in the annual championship tournament.
The season ended for the minor league last Friday as Green River faced Northern Heights in the championship game. This game came after a first round championship match up in which the two teams competed against one another for the title. Northern Heights defeated Green River, but the tourney was set in a double elimination format. Green River had only one loss, thus forcing a second championship game on Friday.
In the final match up, Northern Heights defeated Green River and took home the minor league championship for this season.
The major league championship series began Monday with six teams battling it out for the title. The winner of this single elimination tourney will move on to compete in the little world series of the WBBA in Salt Lake which will begin August 5.
The first day of competition found Northern Heights Green facing Price National Red. The game came down to the wire with an eighth inning being played to decide the winner. By the time that the dust had cleared, Price National defeated Northern Heights 7-6.
Sunnyside hosted Helper on opening day of the championship tournament. The outcome proved quite successful for Helper who defeated Sunnyside 14-4.
The tournament continued on Tuesday with Helper opening up play against Northern Heights. Helper had a successful game and took home the win by the final score of 16-9. By winning this game, Helper advances to the championship game which took place Wednesday evening.
The Price National White team entered their game against Price National Red knowing that it was a do or die situation. The winner of this match up would advance to the final round of the tournament to take on Helper for the WBBA championship.
The game was highly contested with the teams neck and neck going into the fifth inning. When the White team stepped up to bat, they rallied to take control of the ball game as they scored 10 runs in the fifth.
By the time the dust had cleared, the Price National White team had defeated the Reds 17-7, thus advancing them into the final round of the tournament.
Although the WBBA season is rapidly nearing an end, the memories which have been made this season will remain etched in the minds of all who participated in the summer baseball league.
