Melanie Madsen finished strong at the Utah Summer Games held last month.

Several local track athletes recently returned home after participating in the annual Utah Summer Games. The games proved to be successful for each of the local runners who returned home victorious.
Jessica Childs participated in the event and ran the 5,000 and 3,000 meter run. In her division, Childs captured first place honors in each event.
Carbon High track team member Melanie Madsen also competed in the event and also had a successful showing. Madsen ran in the 5,000 and 1,500 meter runs and finished in first place in both events.
Scott Terry who was also a member of the 2002 Carbon High track team competed at the games. In his age division, Terry took home first place honors in the 800 and 1,500 meter run and the 3,000 meter steeple chase.
Terry’s younger sister also participated in the event. She is only four years old and ran in the under 10 division. The crowd cheered her on as she ran against many who were twice her age.
Carbon County resident Joe Palmer competed in the 400 and 1,500 meter runs and finished in first place.
Jimmy Jewkes also competed in the event and placed first in the long jump and the triple jump. In the triple jump event, Jewkes had a personal best time in the event.
Carbon County athletes dominated the track and field events at the summer games this year. With a record like this, athletes from the local area are bound to return next season for competition.
