County Rec now taking applications for spring soccer league.
The deadline has passed, but it is not too late to sign your child up for Carbon County Recreation’s spring soccer league. Soccer is the most popular sport in the world, and is a great way for your child to have interaction with other kids. These leagues are low pressure and high on fun and learning.
Carbon Rec’s soccer leagues begin in kindergarten and go all the way up through high school. The leagues are split into grade divisions. Each division plays a league schedule against other teams in its league. There are 10 league games. Games are scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Castle Heights Elementary, at either 5 p.m. or 6 p.m.
There is also a mini skills camp scheduled for children in kindergarten and first grade. For three weeks the recreation department will go to each school one day a week teaching the fundamentals of soccer to the children. Sally Mauro will meet on Mondays, Wellington on Tuesdays, Castle Heights on Wednesdays, and Creekview on Thursdays. If a player signs up for both camp and league, they will get a $4 discount for both programs.
The cost involved with the soccer program is $19 per child. If you sign up for the league and the mini camp the cost is $25. League play will begin the first week of April.
The recreation department is also looking for volunteers to help coach. Anyone interested in coaching should contact the recreation office located at 90 North 100 East in the Price Community Center, or call 637-5092. Coaches must agree to have a back ground check before being allowed to coach.
Wellington Little League sign ups scheduled.
Children ages seven through 12 who are interested in competing in baseball this year in Wellington may sign up and tryout this weekend. On Saturday, March 16, signups and tryouts will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Wellington City Park. Age groups for this years teams include seven through eight, nine through 10, and 11-12. Two CEU basketball players named to Scenic West teams.
College of Eastern Utah’s Skyler Wilson who finished up an extraordinary season with the Eagles was named to the Scenic West Athletic Conference’s second team this season. Along with Wilson, ladies basketball star Julianne Orgill was honorably mentioned by the SWAC for her incredible performance in an Eagle uniform this season.
Women bowlers from across the state to compete in Carbon County.
The Utah Women’s Bowling Association will continue its month long state tournament this weekend in Carbon County. The women will be in town to compete for state titles. The Country Lanes in Carbonville is the home of the singles and doubles competitions, while Gateway Lanes in Helper is the site of the team bowling competition. The public is welcome to attend and bowling action will take place throughout the day on March 16.
