Karen Grako
PRICE – Loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Karen Sue Davis Grako, age 46, passed away June 10, 2002 at her home.
She was born July 31, 1955 in Elizabeth City, N.C., to Jack and Francis Sammons Davis. She married John Grako July 18, 1975 in Price.
She was a movie fanatic, a great cook and took wonderful care of her family. She was extremely talented. You could feel what she was feeling in the way that she wrote and her artistic ability was inspirational.
She was a devoted wife and mother whose greatest joy came from her children’s accomplishments.
We all will miss her very much.

Ivan ‘Lucky’ Purcell
PRICE – “Father, you are someone to look up to no matter how tall I have grown.” Ivan R. Purcell, age 74, died June 10, 2002 in a Price hospital.
He was born Oct. 20, 1927 in Payson to Roy and Thelma Loveless Purcell. Married Mary Lucille Martucci, later divorced. Married Coralie Franks and she later died. He then remarried Mary Lucille Purcell.
Member of the World Wide Church of God. Longtime resident of Carbon County. Served in the U.S. Navy and Merchant Marines in the Pacific during World War II. Member Price Elks Lodge 1550.
“Lucky” was active in the Jaycees, Carbon-Emery Dance Club, senior citizens and Ann Self School. He enjoyed golfing, baseball, and will be dearly missed by his family and many longtime friends.

Jackson Keith Leavitt
PRICE – A true gentleman, Jackson Keith Leavitt, passed away June 9, 2002 from congestive heart failure.
He was born Sept. 5, 1923 in Kenilworth, the son of C.L. and Louise Jackson Leavitt. Married the love of his life, Catherine Treat, on July 30, 1947. They spent 52 treasured years together until Catherine’s death on Dec. 26, 1999. Their union produced their only daughter, Jan, who adored her father beyond comprehension.
After graduation from Carbon High School, Keith attended Stanford University. He then served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he became an officer and pilot. He flew missions in the South Pacific and remained a member of the Naval Reserve after World War II ended. His love for flying was surpassed only by the love he had for his wife and daughter.
Keith was a lifelong resident of Carbon County, where he owned and operated the Chevron USA distributorship until the time of his retirement. He was a member of the Carbon Country Club, a member of American Legion Post 3 and a life member of Price Elks Lodge 1550. He was an avid golfer, skier and reader.
A more gentle, honest and caring man you will not find.
Keith is survived by his only daughter, Jan Leavitt Bayle, and son-in-law, Robert Bayle, Salt Lake City, who will miss immensely. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, parents and one sister, Lynnette Goetzman.
The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the wonderful staff of the Inn On Barton Creek, where Keith lived for two years after Catherine’s passing. More recently, the nurses and staff who cared for his every need at the Brighton Gardens by Marriott. And last, but not least, the extraordinary Hospice for Utah “girls,” Aletha, Cinda and Melanie, who filled his final days with comfort and companionship.
Graveside service Friday, June 14, noon, Price City Cemetery. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home in Price an hour prior to services.

Earl Lacy Jr.
WENDOVER – God called our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Earl Lacy Jr., home on June 10, 2002.
Earl was born in Hutchinson, Kan., on May 26, 1929 to Earl Sr. and Garnette Seals Lacy. Married his high school sweetheart, Mary Robinson, April 1, 1948 in Elko, Nev. Together, they raised eight children.
Graduate of Carbon High School, 1948. Participated in wrestling and football.
Earl worked as a coal miner and police officer in Carbon County. Moved to Wendover in 1965, where he was a deputy sheriff for Elko County until retirement. Served one term on the Wendover City Council.
Enjoyed playing chess with friends. Historical information fascinated Earl. His greatest joys were his grandchildren and family.
Missing him will be his wife of 54 years; children, Earl III (Glenda), Randy (Rhonda) and Robin (Terry Parker), Wendover; Rick (Virginia), Lorelei Barrera (Mike), Green River, Wyo.; Ron (Francis), Lyman, Wyo.; Terry Linares (Kenneth) Grantsville; 27 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; brother and sisters, Frieda Hale (Frank), Oregon; Claude (Thelma), Blanding, Myrtle Anderson, Wendover; Alice Barker (Sheldon), Wellington. Survived by many relatives, nephews and nieces. Waiting to welcome him home were his youngest son, Claude Scott; his parents and many relatives.
Earl was loved and respected by his family and friends throughout the country.
Services will be Friday, June 14, 1 p.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ to Latter-day Saints Chapel in Wendover. Friends may call between noon and 12:45 p.m. Interment, Wendover Cemetery.
The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Autism Society of Utah, 668 S. 1300 East, Salt Lake City, UT 84102.
Estella Jenkins
CENTERFIELD – Estella Funk Jenkins, age 89, died June 8, 2002 at her home in Centerfield.
She was born Feb. 19, 1913 in Ferron, a daughter of Ezra K. and Ester Henrietta Anderson Funk. She married Clyde E. Jenkins April 9, 1931 in Ferron. He preceded her in death, April 7, 1989.
Estella lived in Emery County for many years until they sold the family farm and moved to Salt Lake City in 1966. She lived there until 1994, when she moved to Centerfield where she lived until her death.
In her younger years, Estella enjoyed riding horses, camping, fishing and dancing. She also enjoyed sewing and crocheting things for her family. She was an instigator in getting her family together for reunions.
She loved her granddaughters and enjoyed spending time with them.
She is survived by one son, Edward R. and Sue Jenkins of Kearns; 11 granddaughters, 24 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren, with two more on the way. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kaye Snow; son, Jay Clyde Jenkins; grandson, Wayne Snow; great-grandson, Lynn Sanders; all of her brothers and sisters; parents; and husband.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 14, at 2:30 p.m., at the Centerfield LDS Ward Chapel, where friends may call for viewing from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to services. Burial will be Friday at 5:30 p.m. in the Ferron Cemetery, under the direction of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Rich-field and Salina.
