Dan James
LCDR USN, retired
HELPER – Daniel A. James, age 71, passed away Nov. 26, 2002 at Salt Lake Regional Hospital.
He was born Dec. 18, 1930 in Castle Dale to Joseph Evan “Sye” and Alice Gibson James. Married Grace Stanphill Feb. 20, 1960 in National City, Colo. She died April 8, 1984. Married Lydia Bruno Gibson Dec. 26, 1984 in Las Vegas, Nev.
Member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Dan enlisted in the U.S. Navy while attending Carbon High School. He began his military career in 1948 at the San Diego Naval Training Center. The years following, he served aboard 16 ships during his tour of duty in combat during Korea and Vietnam.
As a lieutenant on Oct. 22, 1970 ,Dan was awarded the Presidential Bronze Star Medal, “V” for valor, for his exemplary professionalism while under heavy enemy fire in Vietnam.
Member of Stella D”America Italian Lodge 77 and Price Elks Lodge 1550.

Survived by wife, Lydia James, Helper; son, Danny (Karen) James, Maeser; brothers, Evan (Peggy) James, Orem; Wallace (Virginia) James, Murray; sister, Beth Peavler, Versailles, Ky.; and three grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents.
Funeral Mass Tuesday, Dec. 3, 10 a.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church. Vigil service Monday evening at the church in Helper. Family will be at the church Tuesday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Mountain View Cemetery, Helper.

Vera Shaw
PRICE – Vera “Rosie” Vogrenic Shaw, age 88, returned to her Heavenly Father Nov. 30, 2002 while with her daughter in Whittier, Calif.
She was born Nov. 28, 1914 in Sunnyside, to Joseph and Anna Vresichek Vogrenic. Married Eugene Vivian Shaw Dec. 2, 1935 in Price. He died April 2, 1996.
Vera was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who devoted her life to the care of others. She enjoyed the outdoors, camping, cooking and she had a special love for music.
Vera was greatly loved by her family and will be dearly missed by all.
Survived by two daughter and two sons, Margery (Gwyn) Pruitt, Farmington, N.M.; Annette Savely, Azusa, Calif.; Glenn (Mona) Shaw, Diamond Bar, Calif.; Vaughn Shaw, Price; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents; son, Ronald Shaw; three sisters, Annie Radakovich, Mary Jacob and Agnes Varellas; and brothers, Frank and Joseph Vogrenic Jr.
Funeral service Saturday, Dec. 7, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell”s Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
Elsie Robb
PRICE – Elsie Marie Miklo-vich Robb, age 82, passed away Dec. 1, 2002 at her home while surrounded by her loving family.
She was born May 5, 1920 in Rock Springs, Wyo., to Frank and Marie Clements Miklovich. Married Max Arlin Robb Jan. 21, 1971 in Las Vegas, Nev.
Member of the Catholic Church. Member of SNPJ Lodge 113.
Graduate of Carbon High Class of 1938. Elsie worked as a nurse in Carbon County with Dr. Daniel T. Madsen and Dr. Roy W. Robinson for 19 years.
Member of the Carbon Country Club and the Ladies Golf Association. Elsie loved golfing and she enjoyed her golf trips with friends and family.
She loved watching her grandsons play baseball. She had a genuine love for all animals, especially “Silky and Smokey,” her pets.
Survived by husband, Max A. Robb, Price; children, Richard A. (Shanna) Robb, Rochester, Minn.; Gary M. (Vickie) Robb, Bloomington, Ind.; Susan R. (DeVere) Smith, Keith R. (Cathy) Robb, both of Price; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; cousin, Lois (Eugene) Berger, Gallup, N.M. Preceded in death by parents.
Funeral Mass Thursday, Dec. 5, 10 a.m., St. Anthony Catholic Church. Vigil service Wednesday evening, 7 p.m., at the church in Helper. Family will be at the church Wednesday and Thursday one hour prior to services. Committal service, Price City Cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
Evah Christensen
“Our Little Mom”
WELLINGTON – Evah Mor-tensen Christensen, 89, returned to her Father in Heaven Nov. 28, 2002 surrounded by her family due to incident to age.
Born Sept. 26, 1913 in Spring City, the only child of Wilford and Jane Roxanne Sorensen Mortensen. On Aug. 2, 1933, she married Ralph C. Christensen. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.
Evah completed her elementary education in Spring City and attended North Sanpete High School at Mount Pleasant.
She loved to sing and had a beautiful alto voice. She participated in many local musicals and plays in her formative years.
Survived by children, Marilyn Jane (John Dean) Adams, Gary Ralph (Pat) Christensen, Linda Ruth (John Lawrence) Behunin and Evah Jo Ann (Mark David) Moss; 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by son, Jeffrey Scott, in June 1968; husband, Ralph, January 2000; grandson, Jon L. Christensen; and one great-grandson, Joshua Tanner Knudsen.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 11 a.m. at the Wellington 4th LDS Ward Chapel. Viewing will be one hour prior to service. Interment will follow at the Spring City Cemetery at approximately 3 p.m. under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Bruce Stanley, Dr. William L. Saul and the staff at Logan Regional Hospital for their kind, considerate and professional care.
Marvin “Mike” Lofton
CARBONVILLE/OGDEN – Marvin Frank Lofton, known as “Mike,” passed away Dec. 1, 2002 in Ogden.
He was born May 16, 1911 at Beecher Island, Colo. He married Janie Rosella Martin in 1931 in Ogden.
He was a longtime resident of Carbonville.
He is survived by his four children, Robert Lofton, Oregon; Iras and Charles Wiggins, Chino Valley, Ariz.; Marveen and Fred Lister, Kaysville; Larin and Lola Taylor, Price; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife of 70 years; great-granddaughter; great-grandson and grandson.
He will be deeply missed by family and friends, especially Kevin and Bonnie Axelgard and China City, Atwood”s barbers and Albertson”s.
Ernest Campbell
FERRON – Ernest Hugh Campbell, age 68, passed away following a lengthy illness Nov. 30, 2002 at the Emery County Nursing Center.
He was born May 21, 1934 in Moab to Hugh George and Beulah Shafer Campbell. He married Irene Williams May 8, 1954 in Aztec, N.M. She later passed away and he married Peggy Anderson March 2, 1992 in Price.
He was raised in Thompson and graduated from Grand County High School. He was a diesel mechanic most of his life.
He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, football, and was an avid rock hound.
He is survived by wife, Peggy, Huntington; children, Dennis (Wendy) Campbell, Ferron; Suzanne (Don) Larsen, Ferron; Nannette (Rodney) Cooper, Land-O-Lakes, Fla.; Don (Vicki) Campbell, Enoch; Jeannie Young, Huntington; Terry (Marla) Marshall, Price; Mark Myers, Salt Lake City; Alyn (Ann) Tyler, Ogden; Penny Sadler, Ogden; 22 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Also survived by sister, Kathleen (Joe) Twitchell, Moab. He was preceded in death by parents; wife, Irene; and son, David Myers.
Friends may call for a visitation at the Ferron Millsite (Old) Chapel Tuesday, Dec. 3, 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Funeral services will be at the chapel at 1 p.m. Interment, Ferron Cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary, Castle Dale.
Shirley Cook
PRICE/RIFLE, Colo. – Shirley Kathleen Cook, 73, passed away Nov. 29, 2002 near Meeker, Colo.
Born May 4, 1928 to Hayden E. and Clara Mamie Jones in Rifle, Colo. Married William E. Cook June 6, 1948 in Rifle, Colo. He passed away Aug. 27, 1982 in Grand Junction, Colo.
She graduated from high school in Rifle, Colo., and attended beauty college in Grand Junction, Colo.
Resident of Rifle, Colo., for 10 years. Previous places of residence were Parachute and Grand Junction, Colo.; Price, Sunnyside and Tennessee Pass, Colo. Member of St. John”s of the Mesa Episcopal Church, Parachute, Colo.
Member of AARP, Colorado Senior Wellness Group, Happy Hookers crochet group, Lady Strutters, area and regional council of senior wellness, board for sales and cans committee, Lady Elks, VFW women”s auxiliary.
Special interests included crocheting, line dancing, crafts and senior volunteering.
Survived by son, Duane A. (Deborah) Cook, Cheyenne, Wyo.; daughter, Ruthann Cook-Rasmussen, Roosevelt; brother, Ed Jones, Baker, Ore.; sister, Mary Beth Piper, Logandale, Nev.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, Shaylin, Brynden, Trey William and Cyenna; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial service will be Dec. 4, 10 a.m., at the senior citizens center in Rifle, Colo. Cremation will be under the direction of Rifle Funeral Home.
