Dino cross country team continues to improve

The Carbon High cross country team traveled to Ferron last Wednesday to compete in the Emery High meet. As the season continues, the Dinos show improvements with each cross country meet that arises. The Emery meet was no exception.
In the girls division, Melanie Madsen surprised the field by winning the race in 18 minutes and 15 seconds. Madsen beat the closest girl who was running for North Sanpete by 41 seconds. This was quite a difference from last weeks finish which Madsen defeated her opponent by 1/100 of a second.
Ashley Rowley finished the race in sixth place overall with a time of 20 minutes, 59 seconds. Rowley was followed by Janelle Bates who finished the race in eighth place.
The next runner to cross the finish line was Elizabeth Brooks in 11th place, Jana Burrows in 20th place and Britany Horrocks in 21st place.
Audrey Oliver crossed the finish line in 23rd place while Ashley Anderson finished in 24th place. Finally, Erika Flowers finished the race in 29th place and Briana Scoville completed the race in 34th place.
The Dino girls finished the event in second place, only 46 points behind the North Sanpete Hawks. Lehi and Emery followed in the standings for the meet.
The Dino boys team ran some great times also. Isaac Goodrich placed second with a time of 15 minutes, seven seconds. This finish was only five seconds out of the first place finish at the event.
Scott Terry placed third with a time of 15 minutes, 22 seconds. Joe Palmer followed with a 10th place finish with a time of 17 minutes, 14 seconds.
Rounding out the Dino roster was Ted Prettyman in 19th place, Davis Goodrich in 20th place and Chris Cook finished in 21st place at the Emery meet.
The Dinos boys finished the race in third place overall and trailed North Sanpete by 52 points for the first place finish. Lehi completed the race in second place while Emery finished in fourth.
Coach Elias Perez was quite pleased with the Dinos performance in Emery. In fact, it is expected that in the next few races Ian Wilstead, Jacob Perez Tyler Munns will step up in position to take home a top finish. Each athlete has shown improvements and continue to gain experience.
Last Saturday, several of the cross country athletes traveled to Murray to participate in an invitational meet. Many of the Dino athletes did not participate in the meet due to homecoming activities. Those that did travel north had great success at the large meet.
Madsen placed 39th overall in the varsity division. This event consisted of nearly 500 runners from all Utah school divisions and regions.
In the boys varsity race, Terry finished in 24th place and was followed by Goodrich who completed the race with a 29th place finish.
The boys times were all better than last years race which is a sure sign of constant improvement. They also out ran several of the runners who had beaten them in the past races this year. Not a bad showing for the young athletes who competed against 500 of the states best athletes.
The next race for the Dinos will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in Lehi. As the team continues to improve, it is expected that the Dino athletes will be front runners for the title at the Lehi meet.
