Lurene Elliott
CARLIN, Nev. – Lurene Renee Lockyer Elliott passed away Nov. 5, 2002 at her residence in Carlin, Nev.
She was born April 20, 1958 to Terry Lynn and Mary Joyce Lockyer in Butte, Mont.
She had worked as an organizational development specialist for Barrick Goldstrike.
Lurene grew up in Whitehall, Mont. She moved to Price after high school and later moved to Nevada.
She enjoyed gardening, decorating and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her daughter, Amy Elliott of Boise, Idaho; mother, Mary Lockyer of Dillon, Mont.; brothers, Ted Miller of Elko, Nev.; and Terry Lockyer of Tucson, Ariz.; sisters and their families, Kristie Stokes and her son, Ryan, of Boise, Idaho; Kellie and Kevin Haberman and their children, Rikell and Spencer, of Dillon, Mont. Also surviving and special to Lurene is her former husband and Amy’s father, Harold Elliott; his mother, Marba Elliott; sister Mary and her husband, Hayden Dunn, and children. She was preceded in death by her father, Terry; brother, David; and nephew, Justin.
In honor of her request, a private family gathering was conducted.
Lurene was greatly loved. The light and laughter she brought to others will be kept closely in the hearts of many!
Kendall Atwood
SPANISH FORK- Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, Kendall Wayne Atwood, 46, returned to his loving Father in Heaven early Monday morning, Nov. 11, 2002. His unexpected death was a result of injuries sustained while serving as an active police officer in 1999.
Kendall was born Nov. 20, 1955 to Fred and Louise Atwood of Spanish Fork. He was the seventh of eight children. He attended Spanish Fork schools, where according to him, he walked two miles in the snow, uphill both ways. He was active in a capella choir, Madrigals, the high school band. He sang and played guitar in the rock band (Opus). He graduated from Spanish Fork High School, LDS Seminary and served a full-time LDS mission in Dallas, Texas.
Kendall married his high school sweetheart, Shauna Reed, June 20, 1977 in Salem. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Provo LDS Temple.
In fulfillment of his lifelong dream and against his father’s well-intended advice, he attended the police academy in Salt Lake City and became a deputy sheriff in Carbon County. After being promoted to detective investigator, he found an opening in the Spanish Fork police department and got to move back home.
Kendall’s friendly personality and fun sense of humor opened many opportunities for service, including, but not limited to, meritorious awards, EMT service on the ambulance, scouting merit badge counselor, self-defense instruction, and his greatest love was working with the youth as their DARE officer. In May 1999, he was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery in the line of duty. After his medical retirement in 1999, Kendall enjoyed leisurely watching his grass grow, fishing, traveling with his family, making artistic items for his home and taking care his family.
Kendall and Shauna are the parents of six children, Lisa (Jason) Dodds, Sharay (Leroy) Atkin, Stacy Reynolds, Christopher, Spencer and Heidi Atwood; and 10 beautiful grandchildren, each with a grandpa originated nickname. He is also survived by his mother; his sisters and brothers, Carol (Charles) Scholl, Doyle (Kathleen Peterson) Atwood, Jim (Jana Lee Miller) Atwood, Janet (Jesse) McCurry, Lawrence (Fern LeBaron) Atwood and Ray (Sue Gilbert) Atwood. He was preceded in death by his father and sister, Marian.
Funeral services will be Friday, Nov. 15, at 11 a.m. at the Spanish Fork LDS Stake Center at 1006 East 200 South. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Walker Family Mortuary, 187 South Main, Spanish Fork, and on Friday at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
Kendall’s departure has left a wide gap in our hearts, but he left this world “better than he found it,” with a rich legacy of love and service. In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting donations to help with the funeral expenses.
Phyllis Haggadone
PRICE/Kansas – Phyllis C. Haggadone, age 60, passed away Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at her daughter’s home in Olathe, Kan.
She was born Dec. 28, 1941 in Price to Virdis Ugeen and Afton Norma (Tidwell) Winder. Married Elmer J. Haggadone on Nov. 10, 1967.
Graduated East Carbon High School in 1960 and then attended Brigham Young University.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and she gave her life to her church and others.
Phyllis worked for Pacific Telephone for 16 years prior to retiring.
Survived by husband, Elmer J. Haggadone; daughter Wondra J. (Gary) Cooke, Olathe, Kan.; son, Cash H. (Christe) Haggadone, Prairie Village, Kan.; mother Afton Norma (Charles) Hunter, East Carbon; siblings, Virdis (Claudia) Winder, Randolph; Doug (Jerri) Hunter, Green River, Wyo.; Sharon (Peter) Kocum, California; Rosie (Raul) Mena, East Carbon; grandchildren, Bryce E. Cooke, Devon R. Cooke, Deaton A. Cooke, Garek M. Cooke, Jordan Evans and Jakob Evans. Preceded in death by her father, Virdis Ugeen Winder; and a brother and sister who died in infancy.
Funeral service Monday, Nov. 18, 11 a.m., Price LDS Stake Center, 150 South 500 East. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the stake center Monday one hour prior to services. Interment, Cleveland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions to American Cancer Society.
Bertha B. ‘Tommie’ Tomerlin
BOISE, Idaho -Bertha B. “Tommie” Tomerlin passed away on Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at the age of 89.
Bertha was born July 2, 1913 to William Thomas and Ella Eugene Parmer Fonville and raised in Texas. She lived with her parents and three older brothers on a family farm. She married William Jefferson Tomerlin on April 18, 1935 and, shortly thereafter, moved to Colorado and then to Wellington.
While in Wellington, she joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings. She was sealed to her husband in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Aug. 6, 1974.
In addition to being a wife and mother, she also had a successful business career. She was employed by the Singer Sewing Company for several years and later owned and managed floral shops and a craft store. Upon retirement, she moved to Randolph, Neb., and eventually to Boise, Idaho, where she resided until her death.
Bertha was an excellent seamstress and avid gardener. She also enjoyed healthful cooking, quilting, flower arranging and politics. She was affectionately referred to as “Granny” by many friends and family members.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Doris Hanna; four granddaughters, Sherrie Lewis of Bakersfield, Calif.; Shiela Andrews of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Pam Juhasz and Debra Jensen, both of Boise, Idaho. She is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at the Boise West LDS Stake Center, located at 3700 South Maple Grove Road. A viewing will be Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Relyea Funeral Chapel and Friday from 1 p.m. until service time in the Relief Society room at the chapel prior to the services. Burial will follow at the Terrace Lawn Cemetery.
