Cooler temperatures and higher humidity have reduced the number of large wildland fires in Utah. But crews continue to deal with incidents on a daily basis and wildland managers remind Carbon County residents that a statewide fire restriction remains in effect.
All unincorporated state, federal and private lands are covered by stage one or stage two fire restriction orders. Essentially, all open fires are prohibited, even in improved campgrounds.
Also prohibited is smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site or in an area at least three feet in diameter barren or cleared to mineral soil. Fireworks and other pyrotechnic devices are also prohibited.
While participating in outdoor activities, residents should exercise extreme caution. Chain saws and motorized equipment pose a fire danger because they generate flames which could cause a blaze to erupt.
Residents planning back country visits should contact the local offices of the United States Forest Service, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management or the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands for information regarding restrictions that may apply in specific areas.
