Camping sites available at state parks

By Sun Advocate

With the Memorial Day weekend rapidly approaching, the camping season is sure to blossom. Campers should be aware of the following services that state parks provide.
Utah state parks visitors will find more than 1,800 campsites ranging from primitive to plush. Primitive campgrounds have pit or vault toilets. Standard campsites are equipped with barbecue grills, picnic tables, flush toilets, culinary water, parking pads and sanitary disposal stations. Add hot showers and utility hookups for all the comforts of home.
The majority of state park campgrounds remain open year-round. Reservations are not required, but are recommended during peak seasons. In most of the state, peak season is from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Peak season at southern Utah state parks is from Easter weekend through October 31.
Length of stay generally is limited to 14 days within any 30 day period. Check-in time at parks is from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Check-out time is generally 2 p.m. One vehicle with up to eight occupants and any attached recreational equipment is allowed per campsite. Parties requiring an additional vehicle or camping equipment must make prior arrangements with the park. An extra vehicle fee equalling one-half of the regular camping fee is charged per night and is collected upon arrival at the park.
Advance reservations for group-use facilities and individual campsites are available at all developed Utah state parks. Individual campsite and group reservations must be made by telephone.
Reservations may be made by calling Utah State Parks and Recreation at 800-322-3770, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Individual campsite reservations may be made up to 16 weeks in advance from park departure date, and must be made at least three days in advance of the arrival date.
Group site reservations may be made up to 11 months in advance of the final planned day in the park. A minimum fee, based upon the park selected, will be charged at the time the reservation is made. The reservation must be confirmed a minimum of two weeks before the event.
A change fee will be charged for any changes to existing reservations. Payment is required at the time a reservation is made.
