Last Thursday was a day filled with excitement and plenty of basketball action in Helper, as the Mont Harmon Pirates visited the Helper Junior High Rams in a battle for control of the hardwood floor in junior high basketball.
The afternoon began with the varsity boys teams competing against one another. The game came down to the last few seconds of the game as Helper clinched the victory by the score of 61-59. The home crowd was ecstatic over the victory as the girls ran onto the floor in hopes of continuing the Rams winning streak that began with the varsity boys game.
The varsity girls played a tough game with several arms and elbows being thrown. The physical game was close throughout, but the Pirates escaped victorious 56-49.
The junior varsity teams also competed Thursday with the Pirates upsetting the Rams in the girls game by the score of 30-22, while the boys also walked away victorious 39-29 against the hosting team.
The junior high teams will once again compete this Thursday with Mont Harmon hosting East Carbon and Helper traveling to Canyon View. Mont Harmon will also host San Rafael Friday as the season draws to an end.
Both teams will polish up their skills this week as the prepart to enter the district tournaments next week in Emery county.
