Local junior high wrestlers fare well at state tourney

Wrestlers from Mont Harmon and Helper Junior High represented Carbon County at the Junior High State 1A, 2A, and 3A wrestling tournament held in Delta on Feb. 2. Top wrestlers from 30 schools throughout Utah attended the tournament.
The Carbon wrestlers garnered one state championship and two second place finishes along with one seventh place finish.
Dustin Howa from Helper won three matches in the 128 lb. weight class and upset the top ranked wrestler, Tyson Church from North Sanpete before advancing to the championship round.
In the championship round, Howa was matched up with Keyan Lance from Wasatch. Howa defeated Lance by a fall, winning the state championship. Howa finished with a 26-6 record for the season.
Trent Greenhalgh from Mont Harmon won three matches by fall in the 86 lb. class before meeting Ethan Smith from Wasatch in the championship round. Greenhalgh lost by decision and placed second in the tournament. Greenhalgh’s overall season record is an impressive 48-3.
Timmy Urbanik from Mont Harmon won three matches in the 170 lb. class before meeting Brent Peterson from Uintah in the championship round. Urbanik lost by a controversial 6-5 decision in overtime and placed second in the tournament. Urbanik’s overall season record is 16-2.
Courtney Ivory from Mont Harmon won three matches in the 170 lb. class in a full 32 man bracket and advanced to the ninth round. Ivory won three matches and lost two matches which earned him seventh place in he tournament. Ivory has a season record of 22-9.
Kenny Davis from Helper wrestled in the 83 lb. class and advanced to the eighth round. Davis won three matches and lost two matches, placing him with the top 12 wrestlers.
Todd Hicken from Mont Harmon wrestled in the 145 lb. class and advanced to the fourth round before losing his second match.
Wasatch won the first place team trophy, with Uintah taking second place, and Delta taking third.
