On Saturday, a small group of 20 volunteers gathered at the face of wood hill to re-paint the “C.”
There was only one problem, the lift that was brought the night before had mechanical issues.
Boe Jensen of ECI who donated the lift was up until late Friday evening trying to get it repaired. With no time to spare, Dave Child from A1 Rental brought in another lift and the could begin.
Volunteers showed up early to help any way they could.
Most of them started cleaning off and covering up the graffiti while Leif Nelson surveyed and prepared the C.
“We take pride in our city and in our county and we want our citizens to help us, not destroy the beauty” said Amy Jespersen, a Price City Councilwoman.
She added, “We will be watching and prosecuting those who tag public property.”
Nelson said he was pleased to see so many volunteers come out to help.
“We were pleased at how many showed up and we hope as we continue this big undertaking, we will have more volunteers come to help” stated Leif Nelson who has coordinated this effort.
He also added, “We want to acknowledge the willingness of Boe Jensen who stayed up until 10 p.m. trying to get the lift repaired and Dave Child, who without hesitation donated a second lift.”
Although the “C” has yet to be painted, many who came out felt accomplished at what was done. There is no graffiti on any of the rock faces surrounding the area and that is progress.
The committee would also like to inform many who have expressed a desire to have the “original” C re-painted that they too would love to be able to repaint that C.
“There were many factors in deciding which one to paint, namely, accessibility is nearly impossible to do it safely, it is private property, and geologists have warned them not to attempt that one because it is much more likely to crumble and create a safety issue,” explained Nelson.
A date will be discussed for when the project will resume.
The committee will advertise and send out a request for volunteers at that time, Nelson said.
Volunteers help effort to repaint the Carbon ‘C’ over weekend
