Emergency responders were called out late Wednesday night when two locomotives and a coal car derailed near Scofield. No injuries were reported.
The Helper Fire Department, Hazmat, and Rescue 3 were paged at 10:13 p.m. Carbon County Sheriff’s Officers also responded to the scene between the town of Scofield and the Bowie Resource Partners load-out facility at the junction of SR-96 and SR-264.
There are no roads that access the derailment site and first responders staged at the turnoff to the Alpine School District Clear Creek Camp on SR-96. They then hiked to the location to begin their assessment of the accident.
Those first to arrive reported two locomotives on the ground facing north and leaning at a 45 degree angle. A small amount of leakage was detected.
Everything was re-railed by Thursday night and an  investigation continues.
