Carbon Baseball Loses to Juab at Home

Carbon baseball lost their first region game of the season 8-4 on Tuesday to the Juab Wasps.
The Dinos started off hot with an impressive first inning where they didn’t allow a run to score and a Cody Lowe triple in the bottom of the first scored Cesar Laya and Ty Anderson to put the Dinos up early 2-0. 
In the bottom of the second the Dinos added one more run and extended their lead to 4-1. 
A major turning point of the game occurred next for the Dinos according to Head Coach Jeff Cisneros. With two on, Nate Olson hit a deep fly ball over the fence that looked like a home run but the home plate umpire called it a foul ball. 
Cisneros said that the hit looked like a three-run home run to him and could have helped the Dinos put the Wasps away early 7-1 but unfortunately it was a negative for his team.
“I thought our energy and our effort went away in that moment in time,” said Cisneros. 
Carbon wouldn’t score a run the rest of the game after the second inning while the Wasps would take advantage of errors and walks by Carbon to put up seven more runs in the later innings.
 The Dinos had three errors in the fifth and sixth inning and for the game they allowed nine walks.
“We just had too many walks and we had too many walks against a good team. I think that really was a big part of the game and what turned it around,” said Cisneros.
On the other side, Juab’s Raidyn Steele pitched a complete game and had nine strikeouts with only two walks. Juab also only had two errors the entire game. 
“Juab is really good team and that is why we are both competing for a region title and they didn’t make a lot of mistakes yesterday,” said Cisneros.
With the loss on Tuesday the Dinos and Wasps are now in a tie in the Region 14 standings at 8-1 with a game to play against each other this Friday in Nephi.
The winner of Friday’s game will be crowned Region 14 champions.
Cisneros said that he is looking forward to moving on from Tuesday’s game and helping his kids turn the negatives of the game into positives for Friday.
 “It is about going to practice today and tomorrow and wiping the negatives out our minds and getting back to positive things,” said Cisneros.
The Dinos winning a Region 14 title Friday would give them their first since 2011 and the first under Cisneros.
