Coal Hollow fire spreads to 1,100 acres

Hot afternoon winds have pushed the Coal Hollow fire in Central Utah to about 1,100 acres.
Burning in heavy timber and dry brush, the fire spread quickly Sunday afternoon. The blaze is located in Utah County about 1.5 miles from SR-6. Residences in the Dairy Fork Community are closest to harm’s way.
Hot windy conditions in the afternoons are expected to continue through Tuesday, with warming trends forecasted through the week.
Crews are beginning direct attack operations off the Dairy Fork Road today. Railroad tracks, power lines, SR-6 and the Dairy Fork community are threatened by the fire.
There are 100 personnel working to contain the blaze, with more resources ordered.
Because firefighting crews and equipment are responding to fires throughout the west, available resources are limited.  
The Dairy Fork Road is closed and a Temporary Flight Restriction is being ordered over the fire area. Drivers in the area are asked to exercise caution and avoid distraction caused by fire activity in the vicinity of SR-6.
Drones are not allowed in the airspace over the fire. Drones are a safety hazard when fires are being fought from the air. When drones are in the area, aviation resources cannot be used.
Everyone is reminded there are fire restrictions in place on the Manti-La Sal National Forest. Campfires are limited to fire rings constructed by the Forest Service at developed recreation sites like campgrounds and picnic areas. Stoves with an on/off switch that use liquid fuel are allowed on the Forest.
