Kids shop with a cop

Area law enforcement agencies joined forces to help provide Christmas gifts for 35 Carbon County kids and their families during the annual “Shop with a Cop” event Saturday morning.
The day started with breakfast, which was catered by the local McDonalds and was served at the Tuscan by the “Jobies,” a.k.a. Bethel 3 Jobs Daughters. Then it was off to Walmart in a convoy of police vehicles with lights and sirens for fanfare.
Price Police Sgt. Kelly Maynes said this year’s Shop with a Cop program received a Walmart Community Grant of $2,500, and that was matched by the Utah Police Civilian Association. Participating families are selected through referrals from the United Way of Eastern Utah.
Sgt. Maynes said a lot of the kids wanted to get gifts for their family members first, and then select something for themselves. Maynes remarked, “It’s always fun to be able to to this for the families. This is one of the awesome parts of my job.”
Carbon High School Drill Team members volunteered to gift-wrap presents for the event.
Participating law enforcement agencies included the Price, Helper, East Carbon and Wellington Police Departments, Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, and Utah Highway Patrol.
