Police arrested and booked a 36-year-old Salt Lake Valley man on a long list of offenses Saturday morning in Price after he led a string of pursuers in a chase from Helper to Price and then tried to escape on foot in a residential neighborhood.
According to information provided by Helper Police Chief Trent Anderson, Tyson Brent Anderson was reportedly driving recklessly down Price Canyon when he was intercepted by Helper Officer Chris Gigliotti, who tried to stop the vehicle, a Dodge truck towing a trailer with a Jeep on top. The suspect fled eastbound on Highway 6 toward Price.
Officers from Price and Wellington Police Departments, the Carbon County Sheriff’s Department and Highway Patrol joined the pursuit.
The vehicle chase ended at a dead end street in the vicinity of 300 South and 400 West in Price, where the suspect abandoned the truck and took off on foot.
Brandon Scow, a resident, said the neighborhood was alerted by the all the noise of the chase, and that Tyson Anderson was sighted hopping fences. The fence hopping ended in Scow’s yard. “I told him to stop, and he did until the police got him,” Scow told the Sun Advocate. He declined to provide details of how he persuaded the fleeing man to halt. He complimented the police on arriving as quickly as they did.
Chief Anderson reported that law officers discovered that the truck and trailer were reported stolen from the Salt Lake area, and that the vehicles contained about $20,000 in stolen construction equipment.
Tyson Brent Anderson was booked into Carbon County Jail on charges of Fleeing, Failing to Stop at Police Command, Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute and Reckless Driving. The chief said the suspect has a long criminal record.
Helper police are working with police agencies in the Salt Lake area to return the stolen items.
